The tragic series of racehorse deaths and injuries at the Spring Meet at Churchill Downs, home of the renowned Kentucky Derby, has left everyone searching for answers. These events have caused those competing at Churchill Downs to reevaluate the monitoring devices that are to be worn by the racehorses and have raised questions about whether these devices are connected to the tragic incidents.

STRIDESage Wireless Device Connection To Racehorse Deaths

Starting on April 29, 2023, every horse racing at Churchill Downs will be equipped with a wireless device called STRIDESafe. This device looks like an iPhone and is situated under the saddle. Its purpose is to continuously monitor the horse’s movements with 2,400 pulses of radio-frequency radiation per second. Additionally, it interacts with a GPS and RFID chip that just be implanted in the horse’s neck, which amplifies radiation exposure throughout the race.

Alarming Increase in Racehorse Mortality

Since the implementation of the STRIDESafe devices, the number of horse fatalities at Churchill Downs has increased dramatically. In just over a month, there were twelve deaths, which is an alarming eight-fold increase compared to the previous year. These incidents have prompted officials to suspend the spring meet as they scramble to investigate the cause.

Despite the rising deaths at Churchill Downs, Officials have failed to properly identify any changes in the racing conditions or grounds that could explain the spike in injuries and deaths. What appears to be overlooked is the potential impact of STRIDESafe wireless devices and the radiation they emit. Similar concerns were raised in the past, but have gone largely unaddressed.

Past Similarities With Horses Exposed To Radio Waves

There have been stories of horses being affected by radio waves in the past, and they draw unsettling similarities to the current situation at Churchill Downs. The horses were described as nervous, easily spooked, and experiencing sore feet. The symptoms the horses exhibited in the past were equivalent to those observed at the spring meet. Racehorse trainer Penny Hargreaves shared her experience with radio towers and their adverse effects on her horse’s health and behavior.

What Needs To Be Done?

As the equine fatalities continue, veterinarians and equine experts are being urged to help raise awareness and challenge the presence of these wireless devices in horse racing. The mounting racehorse deaths at Churchill Downs and the use of the STRIDESafe devices need to be investigated. The risks associated with radio-frequency radiation needs to be addressed. The well-being of these horses needs to be a priority.
