The equestrian world bids farewell to the remarkable Super Guus, a farmer’s horse who defied expectations and reached the highest levels of dressage. Jolanda Adelaar, his owner of 27 years, reflects on his inspirational journey and impact on the sport.

Super Guus, who became the first Fjord horse in the Netherlands to compete at the highest national level of dressage and even appeared at an FEI World Cup leg, has passed away at the age of 30.

Jolanda Adelaar shares how Super Guus inspired many to take up dressage with horses not typically associated with the sport. She recounts their humble beginnings and the incredible bond they shared.

Super Guus became a sensation, earning his own fan club and even a book dedicated to his story. Jolanda describes how he made dressage more accessible and paved the way for new ideas, even before the era of social media influencers.

While Super Guus moved to Italy with Jolanda in 2013, he returned to the Netherlands in 2019 for a farewell show at Equiday. Jolanda shares her deep connection with Super Guus, describing him as her best friend and constant support.

Despite hoping he would live to at least 40, Super Guus deteriorated in the weeks leading up to his passing on October 7. Jolanda expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to say goodbye to her beloved companion at home, emphasizing the profound loss his departure has left.
